There has been a lot of talk over the years about switching over from analog television to digital. This caused a lot of controversy until 2009 when we finally did it. Many people were unprepared for the switch and did not understand what it meant. Even several years down the road after the switch, there are a lot of people who still don’t really get it. Even in the face of many government programs which were created to cause awareness and financially help the switch along, there were those who didn’t know how to jump on-board and ready their homes for the new age of digital television.
Basically speaking, the old analog televisions of the past will not work. Many CRT-based televisions will now no longer pick up the signal being broadcast by free over-the-air stations. This means that these television owners need to either purchase a new TV, or buy a converter box to allow their older television to pick up these new digital stations. If these users still have old antennae, they will work perfectly. The idea is to make sure that your TV itself can pick up the stations. Converter boxes are still being sold at many stores and are comparatively cheaper than buying a new TV set.
