Time is running out. With less than 35 days until the analog TV signals go dark, many TV viewers still haven’t prepared themselves. There has been lots of doom and gloom in the news lately about the digital TV changeover, and even talk of pushing out the transition date. The simple fact is, that may simply not happen. Next month, regardless of all the political hoo hah, you may very well find yourself with no TV to watch. Then, you’ll be stuck watching cheesy DVDs from your daughters best romantic movies of all times collection instead of catching the game or whatever is happening on Food Network.
Up next to help you prepare is our next TV converter box review. This review is of the Lasonic LTA-260.
The Lasonic LTA-260 is another popular digital TV converter box currently available in the US, both online and in stores. The Lasonic LTA-260 will allow your older TVs to receive the new digital signals, features a simple plug-in coax connector, RCA outputs, and is eligible for the $40 coupon DTV coupon program.
Lasonic LTA-260 Picture Quality: This digital to analog converter box gives viewers an excellent picture that rivals several other of the top quality boxes. It is very close to that of a DVD. Compared to another top box like the Tivax STB-T8, the pictures are almost indistinguishible. This places it easily near the top of the bunch and is why it’s earned top honors from Consumer Reports.
Lasonic LTA-260 Audio Quality: The audio put out by the Lasonic LTA-260 is also of a very high quality. It puts out sound that is that is clearly better than that of an analog TV. Another top unit in the audio department was the Access HD 1080D, and in blind testing, it was nearly impossible for our test audience to tell the units apart.
Lasonic LTA-260 Product Features: The Lasonic LTA-260 analog digital converter provides users with a description of upcoming shows over the next few hours for all channels. The program guide is slightly less detailed than that of other models, but is still very far from basic.. The Lasonic LTA-260 also allows users to individually tune new digital channels or use the auto tuner function. The Lasonic digital converter also has an on screen signal strength meter that you can use to help get your channels tuned correctly with your digital TV antenna; this is really helpful when dialing it in to get the best possible performance. This DTV converter box also gives users the ability to change the font, size, and color of the closed captioning text. The Lasonic LTA 260 also comes with a smart antenna, A/V cables, and RF cables.
The Lasonic LTA-260 unfortunately does not come with a universal remote, auto aspect ratio, analog pass-through, or control buttons on the box. If you need the analog passthrough, a model like the Zenith DTT901 would be your best bet.
Overall the Lasonic LTA-260 does not come with all of the bells and whistles compared with some of the other analog digital converters but it does provide users with a great picture and fantastic audio reproduction. It will however, work for all the major functions that all TV viewers will need next month except for maybe the analog passthrough. It is priced very affordably at around $50 (before coupon), and is in stock at many retailers now.
